I couldn’t completely agree with your beliefs. I have heard about 11Beep and like the idea of anonymity and no digital footprint. Yes it may be hard to stay or even enter into top 20 of the app market, and is definitely hard for startup but you can’t ignore the fact that there are/were still some apps which entered and are/were quite successful. In my opinion without some kind of revenue model for the app (in this case, it cannot be advertisement based), it would be difficult for the startup to survive solely from the fact that the app is in top 20 list. Yes, it could have drawn some serious investor or you cannot also ignore the possibility that it would crash and burn.
Yes , Nepal is blooming late in aspects of technological development but in my opinion you missed the biggest fact. There are more general app users who are not tech savvy , have little or no idea about digital footprint , and doesn’t care about privacy. The main user base for the app will always be general public so you cannot expect most of the people to use the app just so that you think the idea is great. so i think its not about not adopting the new technology, its about not finding the reason to adopt the new thing because you don’t know about new thing. Instead of finding the answer to the question “Why people don’t use my product?” ,we should be asking “Why should people use it?” and the reason should not be solely based on its technical implementation. technicality is for geeks, for others it’s the product that matters.
Another thing which i disagree with you is about media coverage. Media does matters. It’s the strategy that affects the product. without proper strategy, you can’t expect the product to thrive. so the question you should ask is was the strategy best enough in context of Nepal?. One of the best example of media strategy is apple. I don’t think without media, there would be long queue of technical/non technical people beforehand just to buy a phone. It’s how you represent the product that matters. In my opinion, saying “hey use this great product to share your thoughts, share pictures with your friends, create moments together, express anything you like and you know what? its completely free and secure” makes people more attracted to app than saying “use this app + (technical thingy) + (features here) + (technical thingy)”.
You may not feel the same way but hey this is just one person opinion. You do have great idea and good team. Keep on creating new things. I hope it be the start of something beautiful. Cheers!
